Inspiration for Lilly the Knight

Medieval stories and themes have always fascinated me, whether from older literature, such as Shakespeare, or TV shows like Game of Thrones.

Coming up with this story was easy because I have always had this idea in my head of a kingdom that is under attack for its riches, and they have a decision to stay or leave, and if they left, what would happen? What was challenging was figuring out the hero and how they would change throughout this tale. There are a lot of stories over this theme and time period, so I had to make it different.

A knight who is a young girl was the difference that I thought would be a good part to add because knights are historically adult male figures in stories and in real life. What makes a story interesting is to go beyond what we would expect as the audience and do something that feels different, but in a way that is interesting.

As of this writing, the ending of this tale is still being written, but ultimately I want Lilly to go from a scared young girl to a brave young lady who is there for her kingdom and challenges the normal operations of war and showcases her true strengths as the King and everyone around her would least expect it. The biggest theme of this story is to be there for your community, take care of your family, and be yourself and know your strengths because it could very well help you and the people around you.
